It is one of the greenest building materials in the world with highly sustainable harvest and production methods. Cork production does not involve any synthetic, pollutant agent. It can also be recycled after use and is 100% biodegradable. Cork has nearly the same thermal performance as polystyrene so it is a natural replacement for polystyrene in insulated concrete slabs, and walls.

Each cork tree lives for more than 200 years and is harvested more than 20 times in its lifetime. The harvested cork granules are transformed into insulated cork board (ICB) by heating the granules which activates the natural resins and binds the granules together. Amazingly, the cork is heated by burning the unusable bark by products from the harvest creating an almost waste free, energy neutral process.  As cork also sequesters carbon in its natural structure, it is an ideal material to reduce greenhouse gasses and to contribute to a low carbon built environment.
